The Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) is the statutory adviser to the UK Government on national and international nature conservation. Its work contributes to maintaining and enriching biological diversity, conserving geological features and sustaining natural systems. JNCC delivers the UK and international responsibilities of the Council for Nature Conservation and the Countryside (CNCC), the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW), Natural England, and Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH). The functions that arise from these responsibilities are principally to: • Advise Government on the development and implementation of policies for, or affecting, nature conservation in the UK and internationally; • Provide advice and disseminate knowledge on nature conservation issues affecting the UK and internationally; • Establish common standards throughout the UK for nature conservation, including monitoring, research, and the analysis of results; • Commission or support research which it deems relevant to these functions. The Committee comprises 14 members: a Chairman and five independent members appointed by the Secretary of State; the Chairman of CNCC; the Chairmen or deputy Chairmen of CCW, Natural England and SNH; and one other member from each of these bodies. JNCC, originally established under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, was reconstituted by the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006. Support is provided to the JNCC by a company limited by guarantee (JNCC Support Co) that the Committee established in 2005. The Botanical Society of the British Isles (BSBI) is for people interested in the flora of Britain, Ireland and the Isle of Man. The society was founded as the Botanical Society of London in 1836. It includes both professional and amateur members and is the largest organisation devoted to botany in the British Isles. The Society arranges conferences and meetings throughout the British Isles, and occasionally, abroad. It organises plant distribution surveys and publishes plant atlases and handbooks on difficult plant groups such as sedges and willows. Through its Conservation Committee, it plays an active part in the protection of our threatened plants. It welcomes all botanists, professional and amateur alike. The Institute of Terrestrial Ecology (ITE) is a component research organisation within the Natural Environment Research Council. The Biological Records Centre is operated by the ITE, as part of the Environmental Research Centre, and receives financial support from the Joint Nature Conservation Committee. It seeks to help naturalists and research biologists co-ordinate their efforts in studying the occurrence of plants and animals in the British Isles, and to make the results of these studies available to others.   Illustrated with distribution/location maps.   Condition: Mint Condition.   Additional photographs available upon request.   Rare & Collectable!!!        SHIPPING INSURANCE All books are insured during shipping for their purchase value up to a maximum of UK £34.00 This insurance excludes postage & packaging costs.
