Description
A River Runs Through It, RARE, signed by Norman Mclean and Robert Redford This is an extremely rare LIMITED EDITION of Norman Mclean’s masterpiece, A River Runs Through It that was printed in 1989. This exceptional edition was limited to only 200 copies. All 200 copies were signed by Norman Maclean, and the award winning illustrator Barry Moser who designed and illustrated the book. However, only 130 of those copies were sold before Mr. Maclean died. After Robert Redford made the award winning movie, A River Runs Through It, he acquired the remaining 70 copies and also signed them. This book is one of those 70 copies. The book was printed by master printer Harold McGrath on archival paper. The original wood engraving illustrations were printed directly from the hand engraved blocks. Each copy is hand bound in leather with handmade marble paper. The recessed label is enhanced with an original engraving. This book is a work of art. 8 ½” x 6”. This copy is in MINT, NEVER USED condition with all the original paperwork and packaging material. There is a great story about the history of these 70 copies and how I acquired this book. If you are interested, read on. If not, go to the next paragraph. In the early 1990’s I was doing business with the Sundance Catalog, Established by Robert Redford in 1969. In the Fall of 1992, Robert Redford’s movie, A River Runs Through It was released. In the Spring of 1993 one of the Sundance Catalog associates told me the story of how Robert came to acquire these 70 copies. As best as I can remember, this is what he told me. After Norman Maclean’s death in August 1990 (unfortunately, he died before the movie was released) Robert Redford found out that there were 70 copies of this book still in the attic of Norman Maclean’s house (I doubt if the “attic” portion of this story is true, but that is what he told me). Apparently, Robert Redford asked the family members if he could buy these remaining copies and they agreed. Robert then signed them and offered them for sale in his Sundance Catalog in the Spring of 1993. Before the catalog was released, this associate told me that these books were going to be offered in the next catalog. Because I was such an avid fan of the book and the movie, I asked if he would reserve one for me. I knew these books would vanish immediately. He did and I got my copy #141. I would guess that the majority of the other 69 copies are held by friends, relatives and associates of Mr. Redford. That’s just a guess. This book has been vacuum sealed and in my fire proof safe ever since I received it in 1993. I even have the original wrapper, invoice and box that it came in. I also have the original copy of the Spring 1993 catalog that describes the book. It can all be yours. Unfortunately, due to circumstance beyond my control, I must sell this book and all of my other cherished possessions. If you check the internet, you will see that the copies of this book that were only signed by Mr. Maclean and Mr. Moser (the 130 copies) and NOT signed by Robert Redford (the 70 copies) are presently selling for over $2,000. I have not been able to find one copy of this book (signed by Norman Maclean, Barry Moser and Robert Redford) for sale on the internet. This sale is guaranteed. If you feel that this item is anything other what I have described, you may return it for a full refund. I only want satisfied customers. Buyer pays shipping and insurance. You will only be billed for the actual shipping and insurance charges. The shipping charges we list are only an estimate. You may pay less or more depending on your location. Obviously, insurance for this item is a MUST. Thank you and good luck bidding!
